Resumo: Millions of small businessmen, MEI entrepreneurs, constitute a social group of unquestionable relevance to the economy. National surveys, with data collection, indicate that the MEI is a heterogeneous category, substantially formed by people with a family income similar to the criteria for attending the Public Defender's Office. After presenting some basic notions about Company Law and drawing connections with the Public Defender's Office, this research seeks to identify the Public Defender's role in serving small businessmen and improving the criteria for access to justice.
