Relations and approximations between library science and archival science: professional profiles in Brazil

Resumo: This paper proposes an analysis of the relationships and approximations in the professional context between librarians and archivists, based on the question of how the skills and abilities of professional librarians would be adapted to the development of archival routines. The hypothesis is that these careers encounter barriers when it comes to specific job designs, since there is an intersection of competences and skills, given that both professions require similar profiles because their object is the treatment of information, even if for different purposes; however, this perspective leads to the questioning of the suitability of the librarian profile for archival routines. With regard to the careers of Librarianship and Archivology, which are the subject of this study, we can emphasize their importance in digital information management processes and the adaptation of document processing methodologies to the digital environment, since they work in the preservation of documents, both bibliographic and archival, in the context of the information and knowledge society. The broad aim was to map out the so-called approximate competencies in careers in Information Science, Librarianship and Archivology, and the specific aim was to survey the scientific literature in the areas of Information Science, Archivology and Librarianship to determine the competencies and skills required for the professional profiles of these careers; analyze the similarities and divergences present in the relationship between the competences of professional archivists and librarians, delimiting the scope of professional practices in each field; outline the ideal training profile that would be required in each area of training, with the aim of verifying the approximate relationships in terms of professional competence between librarians and archivists, so that the former can develop the professional routines of the latter. Methodologically, the research contributes by outlining a quantitative and qualitative overview of the professional skills of librarians and archivists, based on an exploratory approach using a bibliographic review to analyze the professional qualities and skills that exist and are required in both positions when they work together in archival activities. It was found that in the academic environment there is interest in studies involving the conception of courses in both careers, Librarianship and Archivology, the partnership between the respective areas, as well as the possibility of a curriculum reform in order to provide a grid of subjects that would allow a dialog between the careers and bring them closer together.

La hipótesis es que estas carreras encuentran barreras a la hora de diseñar puestos de trabajo específicos, ya que existe una intersección de competencias y habilidades, dado que ambas profesiones requieren perfiles similares porque su objeto es el tratamiento de la información, aunque con fines diferentes; sin embargo, esta perspectiva lleva a cuestionar la adecuación del perfil del bibliotecario a las rutinas archivísticas. En cuanto a las carreras de Biblioteconomía y Archivología, objeto de este estudio, podemos destacar su importancia en los procesos de gestión digital de la información y la adaptación de las metodologías de tratamiento de documentos al entorno digital, ya que trabajan en la preservación de los documentos, tanto bibliográficos como archivísticos, en el contexto de la sociedad de la información y el conocimiento. El objetivo general fue mapear las llamadas competencias aproximadas en las carreras de Ciencia de la Información, Biblioteconomía y Archivología, y el objetivo específico fue relevar la literatura científica en las áreas de Ciencia de la Información, Archivología y Biblioteconomía para identificar las competencias y habilidades requeridas para los perfiles profesionales de estas carreras; analizar las semejanzas y divergencias presentes en la relación entre las competencias de los profesionales archiveros y bibliotecarios, delimitando el alcance de las prácticas profesionales en cada campo; esbozar el perfil ideal de formación que sería necesario en cada área de formación, con el objetivo de verificar las relaciones aproximadas en términos de competencia profesional entre bibliotecarios y archiveros, para que los primeros puedan desarrollar las rutinas profesionales de los segundos.. Metodológicamente, la investigación contribuye con la elaboración de un panorama cuantitativo y cualitativo de las competencias profesionales de bibliotecarios y archivistas, a partir de un abordaje exploratorio por medio de una revisión bibliográfica para analizar las cualidades y competencias profesionales que existen y son exigidas en ambos cargos cuando trabajan juntos en actividades archivísticas. Se constató que en el medio académico existe interés en estudios que involucren la concepción de cursos en ambas carreras, Bibliotecología y Archivología, la asociación entre las respectivas áreas, así como la posibilidad de una reforma curricular para ofrecer una malla de asignaturas que permita el diálogo entre las carreras y su acercamiento.O presente trabalho propõe a análise das relações e aproximações no contexto profissional entre bibliotecários e arquivistas, a partir do questionamento sobre como se daria a adequação das competências e habilidades do profissional bibliotecário para o desenvolvimento de rotinas arquivísticas. Tem-se como hipótese que as referidas carreiras encontram barreiras no que tange aos desenhos de cargos de forma específica, uma vez que há interseção de competências e habilidades, dado que ambas as profissões requerem perfis similares por terem como objeto o tratamento da informação, mesmo que com finalidades distintas, porém, tal perspectiva leva ao questionamento da adequabilidade do perfil biblioteconômico às rotinas arquivísticas. Com relação às carreiras de Biblioteconomia e Arquivologia, que são o alvo de estudo do presente trabalho, podemos salientar sua importância nos processos de gestão informacional digital e adaptação das metodologias de tratamento documental para o âmbito digital, uma vez que atuam na preservação de documentos, tanto bibliográficos como arquivísticos, no contexto da sociedade da informação e do conhecimento. Objetivou-se de maneira ampla mapear as competências, ditas aproximadas, nas carreiras da área da Ciência da Informação, Biblioteconomia e Arquivologia e de forma específica pretendeu-se levantar na literatura científica das áreas de Ciência da Informação, Arquivologia e Biblioteconomia, as competências e habilidades exigidas para a composição dos perfis profissionais das referidas carreiras; analisar as semelhanças e divergências presentes na relação entre competências de profissionais arquivistas e bibliotecários, delimitando o escopo das práticas profissionais em cada campo de atuação; traçar o perfil de formação ideal que seria exigida em cada área de formação, com a finalidade de verificação das relações aproximadas em termos de competência profissional entre bibliotecários e arquivistas, para que os primeiros possam desenvolver as rotinas profissionais dos segundos. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa contribui ao traçar um panorama quanti-qualitativo relativo às habilidades profissionais de bibliotecários e arquivistas, a partir de um caráter exploratório com adoção de revisão bibliográfica na análise das qualidades e habilidades profissionais existentes e exigidas em ambos os cargos quando atuam em conjunto no exercício da atividade arquivística.
