Folksonomy as a design and digital curation resource in the context of information science

Resumo: The transformations of Information and Communication Technologies throughout the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century raised concerns with the representation of information in its various means of creation, storage and sharing, especially after the emergence of Web 2.0. Among the resources and forms of interaction in the long tail of the Web 2.0 platform, Folksonomy stands out, a form of indexing or categorization of informational objects carried out in a collaborative manner. The present study has the general objective of analyzing the importance of Folksonomy as an object of study and professional practice for Information Science. The specific objectives are to build a theoretical framework on Folksonomy as a theoretical and practical resource to be applied by Information Science; analyze different digit-virtual platforms that use Folksonomy, to understand its applicability in Web 2.0 platforms. This is a qualitative study, of a theoretical and exploratory nature. A bibliographic survey was carried out on the proposed themes and a literature review was carried out to constitute a theoretical framework that responded to the objectives of the study. To analyze the applicability of Folksonomy, an exploratory study was carried out in five digit-virtual environments that use Folksonomy. The results were obtained from the analysis of five Web 2.0 platforms that use Folksonomy: Flickr, YouTube, GoodReads, Bibsonomy and LibraryThing. From the analysis of the analyzed platforms, it can be concluded that Folksonomy is an important resource for Information Science - it makes technical processes more collaborative and enables new forms of analysis of interactions between communities of interest and collections of cultural equipment. Folksonomy depends on the performance of non-specialized individuals, so that a specialist, an information professional, is required to integrate collaborative practices in information units, such as harvesting. Based on the analysis of the literature published on Folksonomy, as well as the web platforms on which it is used, it is understood that it provides greater participation of communities of interest in general. Such participation, essential in view of the need for approximation between informational subjects and information professionals, contributes to the recovery, sharing and creation of new knowledge in a collective and collaborative manner. Although Folksonomy presents some negative points, these aspects can be solved through the work of information professionals in digit-virtual environments, with the aim of making them more efficient and effective, through disciplines such as Information Design and Digital Curation.

Entre los recursos y formas de interacción en la larga cola de la plataforma Web 2.0 destaca la Folksonomía, una forma de indexación o categorización de objetos informativos realizada de forma colaborativa. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo general analizar la importancia de la Folksonomía como objeto de estudio y práctica profesional para las Ciencias de la Información. Los objetivos específicos son: construir un marco teórico sobre la Folksonomía como recurso teórico y práctico para ser aplicado en las Ciencias de la Información; Analizar diferentes plataformas digitales-virtuales que utilizan Folksonomía, para comprender su aplicabilidad en plataformas Web 2.0. Se trata de un estudio cualitativo, de carácter teórico y exploratorio. Se realizó un levantamiento bibliográfico sobre los temas propuestos y se realizó una revisión de la literatura para constituir un marco teórico que respondiera a los objetivos del estudio. Para analizar la aplicabilidad de la Folksonomía, se realizó un estudio exploratorio en entornos virtuales de cinco dígitos que utilizan la Folksonomía. Los resultados se obtuvieron del análisis de cinco plataformas Web 2.0 que utilizan Folksonomy: Flickr, YouTube, GoodReads, Bibsonomy y LibraryThing. Del análisis de las plataformas analizadas, se puede concluir que la folksonomía es un recurso importante para las ciencias de la información: hace que los procesos técnicos sean más colaborativos y permite nuevas formas de análisis de las interacciones entre comunidades de interés y colecciones de equipamiento cultural. La folksonomía depende del desempeño de individuos no especializados, por lo que se requiere de un especialista, un profesional de la información, para integrar prácticas colaborativas en unidades de información, como la recolección. Con base en el análisis de la literatura publicada sobre Folksonomía, así como de las plataformas web en las que se utiliza, se entiende que proporciona una mayor participación de las comunidades de interés en general. Dicha participación, imprescindible ante la necesidad de acercamiento entre sujetos informacionales y profesionales de la información, contribuye a recuperar, compartir y crear nuevos conocimientos de forma colectiva y colaborativa. Si bien la Folksonomía presenta algunos puntos negativos, estos aspectos pueden solucionarse a través del trabajo de profesionales de la información en entornos digital-virtuales, con el objetivo de hacerlos más eficientes y efectivos, a través de disciplinas como el Diseño de Información y la Curación Digital.As transformações das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação ao longo do século XX e início do século XXI suscitaram preocupações com a representação da informação em seus diversos meios de criação, armazenamento e compartilhamento, sobretudo após o surgimento da Web 2.0. Dentre os recursos e formas de interação na cauda longa da plataforma Web 2.0, destaca-se a Folksonomia, uma forma de indexação ou categorização de objetos informacionais nela realizada de maneira colaborativa. O presente estudo tem como objetivo geral analisar a importância da Folksonomia enquanto objeto de estudo e prática profissional para a Ciência da Informação. Os objetivos específicos são: construir referencial teórico sobre Folksonomia enquanto recurso teórico e prático a ser aplicado pela Ciência da Informação; analisar diferentes plataformas dígito-virtuais que utilizam a Folksonomia, para compreender sua aplicabilidade em plataformas Web 2.0. Trata-se de estudo de natureza qualitativa, e do tipo teórico e exploratório. Foi realizado um levantamento bibliográfico acerca das temáticas propostas e uma revisão de literatura para constituir um referencial teórico que respondesse aos objetivos do estudo. Para analisar a aplicabilidade da Folksonomia, foi realizado um estudo exploratório em cinco ambientes dígito-virtuais que utilizam a Folksonomia. Os resultados foram obtidos a partir da análise de cinco plataformas Web 2.0 que utilizam a Folksonomia:  Flickr, YouTube, GoodReads, Bibsonomy e LibraryThing. A partir da análise das plataformas analisadas, pode-se concluir que a Folksonomia é um importante recurso para a Ciência da Informação - torna os processos técnicos mais colaborativos e possibilita novas formas de análise das interações entre as comunidades de interesse e os acervos de equipamentos culturais. A Folksonomia compreende a atuação de indivíduos não especializados, de modo que se faz necessário um especialista, profissional da informação, para integrar as práticas colaborativas nas unidades de informação, tais quais o harvesting. Com base na análise da literatura publicada sobre Folksonomia, bem como das plataformas web em que ela é utilizada, entende-se que ela proporciona uma maior participação das comunidades de interesse de modo geral. Tal participação, essencial diante da necessidade de aproximação entre os sujeitos informacionais e os profissionais da informação, contribui para a recuperação, o compartilhamento e a criação de novos conhecimentos de maneira coletiva e colaborativa.
