Resumo: This study aims to enhance social responsibility and the application of information science-based discourse analysis of some theoretical hypothesis based on the assertion of Information Science as Applied Social Science, which presupposes a social application and the initial question of Capurro (2003): "What is the information?" and how he says one leading to another question: "What is information science?" The methodology used discourse analysis, originally described as a practice field of linguistics and communication. Authors who compose this investigative body are: Borko (1968); Capurro (2003); Hjørland (2003), Matheus (2005), Pinheiro and Loureiro (1995), Saracevic (1999); Wersing and Neveling (1975), all of a particular social place.
