Resumo: The developments from the Industrial Revolution has caused changes in the being, doing and being of societies and affect different professions and trainings. In this scenario, you are doing professional librarian and the guidelines of their training and as the day's agenda is the social responsibility and access to information, it becomes urgent to ask how the directives of the MEC and ABECIN at its last proposal to modify curriculum for the training of the librarian, addressing the theme of social responsibility. As a methodology used to analyze of the content of these guidelines for the training of librarians in 2001, with the primary guiding theoretical Paulo Freire. The results indicate that the social responsibility of the librarian,Los desarrollos derivados de la Revolución Industrial han ido provocando transformaciones en el ser, el hacer y el ser de las sociedades y afectando a diferentes profesiones y formaciones. En este escenario, está la labor profesional del bibliotecario y las directrices para su formación y, como la agenda del día es la responsabilidad social y el acceso a la información, urge preguntarse cómo serán las directrices del MEC y ABECIN, en su último propuesta de cambio curricular para la formación de bibliotecarios, abordar el tema de la responsabilidad social. La metodología utilizada fue el análisis de contenido de las directrices MEC y ABECIN, de 2001, con Paulo Freire como guía teórico. Los resultados indican que la responsabilidad social del bibliotecario, aunque todavía con énfasis en la organización de la información, se acentúa cada vez más en cuestiones que conciernen a la mediación para el acceso a la información.Os desenvolvimentos oriundos da Revolução Industrial vêm ocasionando transformações no ser, no fazer e no estar das sociedades e afetam diferentes profissões e formações. Neste cenário, encontra-se o fazer profissional do bibliotecário e as diretrizes de sua formação e, como a pauta do dia é a responsabilidade social e o acesso à informação, torna-se urgente indagar como as diretrizes do MEC e da ABECIN, na sua última proposta de alteração curricular para a formação do bibliotecário, abordam a temática da responsabilidade social. Como metodologia utilizou-se a análise de conteúdo das diretrizes do MEC e da ABECIN, de 2001, tendo como norte teórico Paulo Freire.
