Este estudo problematiza o conhecimento e percepções de alunos quanto ao uso do Ambiente Virtual de Aprendizagem (AVA), especificamente da ferramenta PBworks para o estudo de conteúdos de Genética na Educação Básica. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, de caráter descritivo, sendo uma pesquisa-ação. Foram desenvolvidas estratégias pedagógicas utilizando o AVA com alunos do terceiro ano do Ensino Médio de uma escola de Iguatu/Ceará, no ano de 2015. Antes e após o desenvolvimento das atividades, os alunos foram inquiridos quanto às percepções do uso dessas estratégias. As respostas foram analisadas de forma descritiva. Observou-se nas respostas que a escola atual precisa considerar as potencialidades dos AVA, visto que os estudantes vivem e convivem com diferentes recursos tecnológicos, fato que os torna capazes de aprender por diversas maneiras. Precisam, porém, ser motivados, questionados e envolvidos nas atividades propostas.Palavras chaves: Ensino de Biologia. PBworks. Aprendizagem Colaborativa. THE VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AS AN AID IN TEACHING GENETICS IN BASIC EDUCATION Abstract: This study focuses on students' knowledge and perceptions regarding the use of the Virtual Learning Environment (AVA, Portuguese acronym), specifically the PBworks tool for the study of Genetics contents in Basic Education. It is qualitative, descriptive and action research. Teaching strategies were developed by using AVA with third year high school students from a school in Iguatu/Ceará, in the year 2015. After and before the development of the activities, the students were asked about their perceptions of the use of these strategies. The answers were analyzed in a descriptive way. It was observed in the answers that current schools need to consider the potentialities of AVA, since students live and coexist with different technological resources, which make them able to learn in different ways. They need, however, to be motivated, consulted and involved in the proposed activities.Keywords: Biology teaching, PBworks, Collaborative learning.
