Behavior of sorghum genotypes in the uplands of Rio Grande do Sul

Resumo: In the 1980/81 and 1981/82 growing seasons a national trial of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) was conducted at the Centro Nacional de Pesquisa do Trigo (National Wheat Research Center - CNPT) to evaluate the behavior of sweet sorghum genotypes in the uplands of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The cultivar BR 505 showed the highest yield of stems in both seasons of experimentation. It was also noticed that in the 1981/82 growing season all cultivars and hybrids tested showed sensitivity to water stress. Sweet sorghum showed potential for development in that region.

Sweet sorghum showed potential for development in that region.  No período de 1980/81 a 1981/82 foi conduzido em campo, no Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Trigo (CNPT), o Ensaio Nacional de Sorgo Sacarino (Sorghum bicolor), para estudo do comportamento de genótipos de sorgo no planalto do Rio Grande do Sul. A cultivar que demonstrou maior produtividade de colmos despalhados, nos dois anos de experimentação, foi a BR 505 (Wray). Observou-se, também, que durante 1981/82 as cultivares e híbridos testados mostraram acentuada sensibilidade à deficiência híbrida.
