Plant age and its influence in the flowering induction and yield of pineapple cultivar

Resumo: An experiment was carried out on a Regosol soil at Quiçamã, RJ, Brazil, to study the influence of calcium carbide on the flowering induction of 'Smooth Cayenne' pineapple cultivar. The treatments were applied to seven, eight, nine and ten-month old plants, in a completely randomized block design, with four replications. Results showed significant differences among treatments, related to weight and lenght of fruits. Plants induced seven, eight and nine months after planting produced smaller and lighter fruit than those that flowered naturally. No significant difference was found in relation to fruit total acidity.

No significant difference was found in relation to fruit total acidity.Em experimento instalado em solo tipo Regossolo em Quiçamã, RI, estudou-se a influência da aplicação de carbureto de cálcio em plantas de abacaxi da cultivar Smooth Cayenne com sete, oito, nove e dez meses de idade, utilizando-se o delineamento estatístico de blocos ao acaso e quatro repetições. Foram constatadas diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os tratamentos para peso e comprimento dos frutos. As plantas induzidas aos sete meses produziram frutos mais leves quando comparadas às não-induzidas. As induzidas aos sete, oito e nove meses após o plantio produziram frutos menores, comparados aos obtidos sem indução artificial da floração.
