Resumo: | The cassava shoot fly, Neosilba perezi (Romero & Ruppel) (Diptera: Lonchaeidae) attacks the terminal shoots of cassava causing drought, death pointers and breaks the apical dominance. The attacked plants are stimulated to emit lateral shoots that are prone to further attacks. High pest populations attacking young plants can cause symptoms of overbudding and dwarfism, as well as losses, especially in propagation material. This fly has been increasing attention in recent years as the primary pest in the major producing regions of cassava in Brazil. This review shows knowledge about the pest and culture interaction, control methods, advances and challenges in research with this insect. |

As plantas atacadas são estimuladas a emitirem brotações laterais, que são passíveis de novos ataques. Altas populações da praga atacando plantas jovens podem ocasionar sintomas de envassouramento e nanismo, além de perdas de material propagativo. Essa mosca vem ganhando destaque nos últimos anos como praga primária nas principais regiões produtoras do País.
