Resumo: The present scientific research aims to know the demographic characteristics of residencies in Internal Medicine in Brazil, in the year 2022. An analytical study of ecological design was carried out with five hundred residency programs in Internal Medicine registered in the Computerized System of the National Commission for Medical Residency (SisCNRM) of the Ministry of Education (MEC). The results showed that the institutions that offer such programs are mostly linked to public administration. There was a higher average of physicians residing in Internal Medicine in Brazil, in the Southeast region (16.8) and the lowest in the North region (11.2), in addition to a predominance in the capitals of all states (average of 16.57 ± 12.76). The average Brazilian occupancy rate for this specialty is around 84%, with idle vacancies around 15.88%, with variations between municipalities. The data allowed reaching the conclusion that there is a predominance of vacancies in the more developed regions of the country, being necessary to know the causes of idleness and to structure the teaching centers to train specialists in Clinical Medicine that meet the social needs of the population, inserted in the Health Unic System.
