Meat Production and Consumption as Harmful to the Environment, Human Rights and Animal Rights: Prospects for an Effective Human Right to Adequate Food

Resumo: Objective this article presents the problems relating to the need to calculate the effects of meat production and consumption (and diametrically, other animal products), under the aegis of the human right to adequate food and ensuring food and nutrition security. As methodology, we opted for the hypothetical-deductive method, with essentially bibliographical research. It is noticed, in this context, that the production and consumption of animal meat for human beings show up damaging the implementation of those rights and guarantee, by their very high economic and environmental costs. It is urgent to build a new way of thinking about food, in order to make it more integrated with human rights, animal rights and the environment.

Para tanto, imperativo se mostra tratá-lo em consonância com a garantia da segurança alimentar e nutricional, que se mostra como algo muito mais complexo do que o mero direito de "não passar fome". Percebe-se, nesse contexto, que a produção e o consumo de carne animal pelos seres humanos mostram-se como prejudiciais à implementação do referido direito, por seus altíssimos custos socioambientais.
