Os institutional voids como oportunidade empreendedora: aspectos processuais de obtenção de riquezas

The diversity of institutional voids present in emerging markets has challenged entrepreneurs, researchers, entrepreneurs and social communities in many countries to find solutions in coping with and overcoming this phenomenon. Thus, more than barriers impeding the functioning of markets, institutional voids are treated as spaces of opportunity that instigate and influence specific changes in the institutional environment. As a result, there are business groups, clusters, small entrepreneurs, networks of community organizations, microfinance organizations, among others, which replace the role of formal institutions responsible for ensuring the functioning of emerging markets. In this way, this work points to a group of billionaire entrepreneurs who have built fortunes by undertaking their businesses as intermediaries in these markets. This thesis therefore defends the idea that individual entrepreneurs can fill institutional voids in emerging markets, as well as using strategies to create other gaps that ensure not only the survival of their business but their international expansion. In view of this, this research investigates: (i) the nature of institutional voids, (ii) strategies used to overcome institutional voids, and (iii) the impact of these strategies. The paper aims to contribute to the literature of institutional voids in the field of international business, broadening the theoretical perspective and generating new insights of future research. The work has a qualitative post-positivist research orientation, which, through the case study method, has brought the necessary elements for the validation of the results found. However, the thesis is divided into three articles that addresses institutional voids by different research lenses: literature review, historical study and empirical study. The conclusions, limitations, and future research tracks are suggested at the end of the development of these three chapters.
