Interaction between antibiotics and contraceptives in the female organism

Contraceptives have become medications for continuous use aiming at the prevention of conception and knowing their effects and drug interactions is extremely relevant, in this work it is about the interaction between antibiotics and contraceptives, aiming to demonstrate to the academic society and to women the existence of interaction with harmful effect on the female organism. To analyze drug interactions between contraceptives and antibiotics, focusing on warning women about the risks of side effects, as well as the possibility of potentiating or inhibiting contraceptives. To construct the work, the following databases were used: Academic Google, MDSaúde, PubMed, SciELO (Scientific Electronic Lirary Online) and Lilacs - Bireme (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences). In addition, the following inclusion criteria were applied: articles available in full, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, from 2011 to 2021 with free access and that had an affinity with the theme.English and Spanish, from 2011 to 2021 with free access and that had an affinity with the theme. 15 studies were discussed in order to support this integrative review. From these studies, it was understood that a class of antibiotics has side effects when there is an interaction with contraceptives and that women are not aware of this interaction, thus triggering unwanted conceptions, and even potentiation of medications. Contraceptives have been losing their effectiveness amid this association of drugs, so the consideration of the existence of these interactions against the classes of antibiotic drugs is one of the contributions that the pharmacist in the over-the-counter pharmacy can contribute to raising awareness. women in the purchase of medicines about the possibility of interaction, taking into account the women's lack of prior knowledge of possible adverse reactions.
