An analysis of the performance of the dental surgeon of orofacial harmonization in Brazil

Resumo: Facial harmonization is a specialty of dentistry that seeks the functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of the stomatognathic system and orofacial structures in its area of expertise. To analyze, through a literature review, the role of the dental surgeon in orofacial harmonization in Brazil from the point of view of compliance with the Code of Ethics in DentistryMethodology: The present work is presented as a qualitative descriptive literature review where we sought to satisfy the objectives through a literature review about facial harmonization with regard to the field of dentistry and its implications from the point of view of the Dentistry Code of Ethics. First, a survey was carried out on the Capes/Cnpq databases, Virtual Health Library, National Library of Medicine, Scielo and Google Scholar indexed databases using the following descriptors: Orofacial harmonization; Dental surgeon; Code of ethics; Dentistry. We searched for articles published in the period from 2012 to 2022, including the date of the last Code of Ethics for Dentistry (2012). After researching the published works, 23 materials were selected from articles, resolutions, regulations and federal codes. It was observed that there are major issues discussed within the field of orofacial harmonization in Brazil involving the dental surgeon and professionals from other health classes who question their competences. There are several aspects that must be observed by dentistry, such as the adequacy of standards so that they meet their professional needs.

Analisar, por meio de uma revisão de literatura, a atuação do cirurgião dentista na harmonização orofacial no Brasil sob o ponto de vista da conformidade com o Código de Ética da Odontologia. O presente trabalho apresenta-se como uma revisão de literatura de caráter descritivo qualitativo onde buscou-se satisfazer os objetivos por meio de revisão de literatura acerca da harmonização facial no que diz respeito ao campo da odontologia e suas implicações a partir do ponto de vista do Código de Ética da Odontologia. Primeiramente, fez-se um levantamento nas bases da Capes/Cnpq, Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde, National Library of Medicine, Scielo e bases indexadas ao Google Acadêmico utilizando-se dos seguintes descritores: Harmonização orofacial; Cirurgião dentista; Código de ética; Odontologia. Buscou-se artigos publicados no período de 2012 a 2022 compreendendo a data do último Código de Ética da Odontologia (2012). Após a pesquisa dos trabalhos publicados, selecionou-se então 23 materiais entre artigos, resoluções, normativas e códigos federais. Observou-se que há grandes questões discutidas dentro do campo da harmonização orofacial no Brasil envolvendo o cirurgião dentista e profissionais de outras classes da saúde que questionam suas competências.
