Resumo:   The cesarean section is an obstetric intervention that aims to save the lives of women and their newborns, and when performed under medical indication, it is a safe and essential surgery, but when performed without any medical indication, there is no evidence that it is beneficial, and even some studies show that it is harmful to the health of the child. The rates of cesarean sections have grown sharply worldwide, with Brazil being one of the worst scenarios, therefore the objective of this study was to identify the damage that cesarean sections without indication can bring to the development and health of the newborn. This is a scoping review where articles were selected from the LILACS and Medline databases. As a result, cesarean sections showed a higher risk of delayed development and neurodevelopment, while the development of infant morbidities and adverse events were more prevalent in children born by cesarean section compared to those born by normal labor. The colonization of the intestinal microbiota was also different when comparing the two forms of childbirth, with children born by cesarean section having a lower microbial diversity throughout childhood, which is related to an increased risk of developing immune system diseases. Thus, we conclude that we need to measure the use of this method of childbirth without indication, because it brings consequences to neonatal and child health.

Sustenere Publishing2022-05-18info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://sustenere.inf.br/index.php/sciresalutis/article/view/695810.6008/CBPC2236-9600.2022.002.0017Scire Salutis; Vol. 12 No. 2 (2022): Scire Salutis - Fev, Mar, Abr 2022; 163-172Scire Salutis; Vol. 12 Núm. 2 (2022): Scire Salutis - Fev, Mar, Abr 2022; 163-172Scire Salutis; v. 12 n. 2 (2022): Scire Salutis - Fev, Mar, Abr 2022; 163-1722236-9600reponame:Scire Salutisinstname:Companhia Brasileira de Produção Científica (CBPC)instacron:ESSporenghttps://sustenere.inf.br/index.php/sciresalutis/article/view/6958/3753https://sustenere.inf.br/index.php/sciresalutis/article/view/6958/3752Copyright (c) 2022 Scire Salutishttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGonzaga, Márcia Féldreman Nunes Venturelli, Mariana FerreiraAlmeida, Clayton Gonçalves de Tavares, Sheilla Siedler Contini, Irineu Cesar Panzeri 2023-08-03T13:33:39Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/6958Revistahttps://sustenere.co/index.php/sciresalutisONGhttps://sustenere.co/index.php/sciresalutis/oai||carlos@arvore.org.br2236-96002236-9600opendoar:2023-08-03T13:33:39Scire Salutis - Companhia Brasileira de Produção Científica (CBPC)false
