Resumo: | The breastfeeding period is essential for maintaining the health of the baby and the nursing mother, and it has become a serious public health problem worldwide. Faced with the need to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding, the role of the nurse as a member of the health team and closer to the pregnant and lactating women as a result of pre- and postnatal care is highlighted. to present the work of nurses in the context of breastfeeding and awareness of the benefits for the health of babies and women. This is an integrative literature review, the databases used are: NCBI/PubMed (National Center for BiotechnologyInformation), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Lirary Online), Academic Google and Lilacs - Bireme (Latin American Literature and the Caribbean in Health Sciences). To delimit the contents, inclusion criteria were used: articles available in full, in Portuguese, published in the period from 2015 to 2021 with free access and dealing with the topic. The nurse acts as an educator and person capable of making pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum women aware of the benefits of breastfeeding, through the analysis of ten articles it was possible to understand that mothers do not have adequate guidance on the benefits of this act, and there is a need for awareness campaigns and actions, which demonstrate the nutrition of this milk and its importance in the baby's initial development, as well as the benefits aimed at the mother, such as: acceleration of the weight loss process, reduction of bleeding, reduction of incidence of cardiovascular disease. The nurse is the health professional closest to the pregnant, lactating and postpartum women and an active posture is required based on ethical principles in order to clarify the benefits of breastfeeding to them, taking into account that currently breastfeeding is sometimes denied to the baby for aesthetic reasons or due to the incidence of diseases that prevent the contact and creation of a bond between mother and baby, making the nurse's work essential. |
