Resumo: Stress is a frequent public health problem in certain professional categories. The objective of the study was to evaluate the level of stress in education professionals in the municipality of Zona da Mata Mineira. As for the method, it is a descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional field study with a quantitative approach. The study was carried out in municipal schools and early childhood education centers, located in a municipality in the Zona da Mata Mineira, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Sociodemographic, professional and lifestyle variables were evaluated to characterize the studied population. The Work Stress Scale (WSS, short version) was used to analyze stress levels. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the majority of study participants were women (86.4%), aged between 40 and 49 years (42.4%) and with a postgraduate degree (45.8%). Most (93.2%) worked as professors. It appears that all teachers had significant levels of stress, of which most were classified as having a medium level of stress (39.0%). It is concluded that occupational stress is a prevalent phenomenon among professionals who perform pedagogical, technical and administrative functions in the municipal education network surveyed. It is essential to monitor the workers' health situation, implement appropriate practices to prevent the aggravation of the identified stress.

O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar o nível de estresse em profissionais da educação de município da zona da mata mineira. Quanto ao método, trata-se de um estudo descritivo, exploratório, transversal, de campo, com abordagem quantitativa. O estudo foi desenvolvido em escolas e centros de educação infantil municipais, localizados em um município na Zona da Mata Mineira, estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil.  As variáveis sociodemográficas, profissionais e estilo de vida foram avaliadas para caracterizar a população estudada. A Escala de Estresse no Trabalho (EET, versão resumida) foi empregada para analisar os níveis de estresse. Os dados foram analisados empregando estatística descritiva. Os resultados mostraram que a maioria dos participantes do estudo foi composta por mulheres (86,4%), na faixa etária de 40 a 49 anos (42,4%) e com pós-graduação (45,8%). Grande parte (93,2%) atuavam no cargo de professor. Verifica-se que todos professores apresentaram níveis importantes de estresse, dos quais grande parte foi classificada com médio nível de estresse (39,0%). Conclui-se que o estresse ocupacional é um fenômeno prevalente entre os profissionais que exercem funções pedagógicas, técnicas e administrativas na rede de ensino municipal pesquisada.
