Ingredients and nutritional composition of dietary supplements dedicated to sport: an analysis of protein and carbohydrate supplements sold in the Federal District (DF)

Resumo: | Currently, there is an increase in the number of people who practice physical exercise for a variety of reasons. In this sense, the demand for and use of dietary supplements dedicated to sports also increases, however, possible problems regarding the nutritional composition and ingredients present in these products are noted. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the nutritional composition and ingredients of protein and carbohydrate supplements sold in the Federal District. This is a quantitative cross-sectional study that took place in three stages: 1. Sample mapping; 2. Data Collection; 3. Statistical Analysis. A total of 158 products were included and, in general, it was found that the nutritional composition of these products corresponds to the type of supplement marketed. However, different protein sources used in the categories of protein powders and protein bars highlight the attention to better choices aimed at improving performance in athletes. Also, in the category of protein bars, there was an ostensive presence of sugars and hydrogenated vegetable fats, in the form of chocolate coatings and vegetable oils. Sucralose was the main food additive present in the analyzed supplements. |

Nesse sentido, aumenta também a procura e o uso de suplementos alimentares dedicados ao esporte, contudo, notam-se possíveis problemáticas acerca da composição nutricional e os ingredientes presentes nesses produtos. Sendo assim, o objetivo desse estudo foi analisar a composição nutricional e os ingredientes dos suplementos de proteína e carboidratos comercializados no Distrito Federal. Trata-se de um estudo transversal quantitativo que ocorreu em três etapas: 1. Mapeamento de amostras; 2. Coleta de Dados; 3. Análise Estatística. Foram incluídos 158 produtos no total e de forma geral verificou-se que a composição nutricional desses produtos corresponde ao tipo de suplemento comercializado. Entretanto, diferentes fontes proteicas empregadas nas categorias de proteínas em pó e barras de proteína destacam a atenção para melhores escolhas direcionadas à melhoria de performance em atletas. Ainda, na categoria de barras de proteína, verificou-se a presença ostensiva de açúcares e gorduras vegetais hidrogenadas, na forma de coberturas de chocolate e óleos vegetais.
