Resumo: Introduction: Acute respiratory diseases cover a spectrum of morbid events and of different etiologies, which differentiates their severity, compromising the respiratory tract. Objective: To analyze the repercussion of the new coronavirus, describing from its data its characteristics and mode of prevention Method: This is a literature review of a descriptive nature in order to review the Coronavirus as a public health problem, in order to propagate the ability to know even more about a new virus than global. Subsequently, the descriptors were used in the journal portal Capes (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) and in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) to survey publications in the Scielo databases (Scientific Eletronic Library Online ), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences), MEDLINE (Online Medical Literature Search and Analysis System) and BDENF (Nursing Database), with 87 original review articles, and case reports in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Results: The coronavirus is responsible for the causes of intestinal and respiratory infections in humans and animals, and its clinical spectrum is not yet specific. The identification of the factors that cause or promote respiratory diseases are linked to the environment in which the individual lives. The cost related to prevention is only a fraction of the treatment. In Brazil, there are still few cases with a positive diagnosis and in order to avoid its spread in animals and humans, international travel should be analyzed, as according to the epidemiological studies of MERS-COV. Conclusion: It is recommended to monitor its circulation among the population of the region so that epidemiological data are generated, as well as on the existence of a seasonality profile, and prophylactic alternatives are created in order to reduce the risks of CoVh infection.
