Resumo: | In this brief text we will show how the Universal Church acts in Brazilian television as a producer of programs or as a simple company that rents out space for television advertising of its products. The text begins by showing that the presence of the Universal Church on Brazilian television is constant since the early of 1980's, following the way religious institutions shapes their speeches into the technology of their time. We will see, also, that in the course of time and experience, Edir Macedo noted that it was more profitable to buy a television channel that rent television space, acquiring the traditional Network Record in an obscure financial transaction. Finally, we will discuss the main television programs of the Universal Church (showed in Recife), as well as the high cost of maintaining a religious programming on television. |

O artigo começa mostrando que a presença da Igreja Universal na televisão brasileira é constante desde o início da década de 1980, seguindo o costume milenar das instituições religiosas, que moldam seus discursos às tecnologias de seu tempo. Veremos, também, que com o tempo e com a experiência adquirida, Edir Macedo observou que era mais rentável comprar um canal de televisão do que alugar espaço televisivo, adquirindo a tradicional Rede Record em uma obscura operação financeira. Para finalizar, serão discutidos os principais programas televisivos da Igreja Universal (veiculados em Recife), como também o alto custo de se manter uma programação religiosa na televisão.
