Resumo: | Assuming that all action is enveloped by the symbolic ritual; that symbolic thought is always an assimilation which reminds us of accommodating attitudes; and that the human being seeks to give meaning to their existence, the purpose of this article is to describe a rite of initiation and its symbolic implications in the school context. The research is descriptive and field research in the municipal school network of João Pessoa / PB. The qualitative approach and the symbolic hermeneutics used in the analysis aims to describe the symbolic forms of the selected rite. As a first result of our study, we analyzed the initiation rite of the first day of class in its reality as a social and collective fact, as a being a structural element that organizes the world and the consciousness of the individual. It was identified that the ritual action establishes meanings and teaches students in the school context. |

It was identified that the ritual action establishes meanings and teaches students in the school context.Partindo do pressuposto de que toda ação ritual é revestida pelo simbólico; de que o pensamento simbólico é sempre assimilação que lembra atitudes acomodativas e de que o ser humano busca dar sentido para sua existência, traçamos o objetivo deste artigo que consistiu em descrever sobre um rito de iniciação e suas implicações simbólicas no contexto escolar. A pesquisa é descritiva e de campo, realizada na rede municipal de João Pessoa/PB. A abordagem qualitativa e a hermenêutica simbólica utilizada na análise visa descrever as formas simbólicas do rito selecionado. Como primeiro resultado de nosso estudo, foi analisado o rito de iniciação do primeiro dia de aula, na sua realidade como fato social e coletivo, como sendo elemento estruturante que organiza o mundo e a consciência do indivíduo. Foi identificado que a ação ritual ensina e instaura significados aos alunos no contexto escolar.
