Six sigma and quality tools: Project to improve the decrease of defect indexes in automotive trims

Resumo: The Six Sigma methodology aims to reduce process variations, eliminating possible causes and occurrences of defects. Composed of five steps which are summarized in the acronym DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), the methodology aims to optimize quality control and process stability in a management system. In this sense, the work presents an improvement project carried out in an auto parts manufacturer in the city of Itapetininga/SP in 2021. When analyzing the injection molding process of automotive Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monometer (EPDM) gaskets, it was found a high rate of visual defects in the trims. Based on the Six Sigma methodology, the DMAIC sequence and quality tools as check sheets, Pareto and Ishikawa diagrams, the group of causes were surveyed, in order to implement improvement actions. That way, upon finding the recurring non-conformities and their causes, an improvement project was prepared which was divided into action aiming at the optimization and efficiency of the process. After carrying out such actions, it was found that the defect reduction objectives were achieved, impacting the company´s profitability.

Composta por cinco passos os quais são sintetizados na sigla DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), a metodologia almeja otimizar o controle de qualidade e a estabilidade do processo em um sistema de gestão. Nesse sentido, o trabalho apresenta um projeto de melhoria realizado em uma empresa fabricante de autopeças na cidade de Itapetininga/SP em 2021. Ao analisar o processo de moldagem por injeção de guarnições de Etileno-Propileno-Dieno Monômero (EPDM) automotivas, foi constatado um alto índice de defeitos. A partir da sequência DMAIC do Seis Sigma, juntamente das ferramentas da qualidade folhas de verificação e os diagramas de Pareto e de Ishikawa, realizou-se o levantamento dos grupos de causas, a fim de implementar ações de melhoria. Dessa forma ao constatar as não conformidades recorrentes e suas causas, foi elaborado um projeto de melhoria o qual dividiu-se em ações objetivando a otimização e eficiência do processo.
