Resumo: The purpose of this paper is to understand the business creation process in the interior decorating industry. In order to do so, we developed a qualitative multicase study in three small businesses located in Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais State. Specifically, we aimed to historically review the studied cases and to identify the construction of their entrepreneurial processes, assuming the concepts proposed by Shane and Venkataraman (2000). These authors consider the entrepreneurial process as the set of actions that contemplates the business idea, the identification and exploration of business opportunities, which converges to new business creation. The results show that, in the studied cases, some particular motivations influence the entrepreneurial processes, including different trajectories of opportunities? identification and exploration, which in turn influence the creation of organizations in the interior decorating industry. We conclude that exogenous opportunities such as market opening and customers demand, and endogenous opportunities such as new products and services, innovations, motivated by individual, familiar, and professional matters.

Como objetivos específicos, se buscó rescatar la historia de las empresas estudiadas e identificar la configuración del proceso emprendedor de creación de los negocios estudiados, a partir de la delimitación conceptual propuesta por Shane y Venkataraman (2000), que consideran el proceso emprendedor como conjunto de acciones que, implican desde la idea, la identificación y la explotación de oportunidades, que culminan en la creación de un nuevo negocio. Los resultados revelan que el proceso emprendedor en empresas del sector de diseño de interiores está marcado por motivaciones particulares y por trayectorias distintas de identificación y explotación de oportunidades, con consecuencias también distintas en términos de creación de negocios en la referida rama de actividades. Es posible constatar la configuración de diferentes oportunidades, que se vinculan a elementos de mercado, de demanda, de productos y servicios, así como derivadas de carácter individual, familiar, y de formación / experiencia profesional.O objetivo geral do presente trabalho consiste em compreender o processo de criação de empresas no setor de design de interiores, através de um estudo multicaso de natureza qualitativa junto a três empresas que atuam no município de Ituiutaba, estado de Minas Gerais. Para tanto, buscou-se resgatar a história das empresas estudadas e identificar a configuração do processo empreendedor de criação dos negócios estudados, a partir da delimitação conceitual proposta por Shane e Venkataraman (2000), que consideram o processo empreendedor como conjunto de ações que envolvem desde a ideia, a identificação e a exploração de oportunidades, que culminam na criação de um novo negócio. Os resultados revelam que o processo empreendedor em empresas do setor de design de interiores é marcado por motivações particulares e por trajetórias distintas de identificação e exploração de oportunidades, com consequências também distintas em termos de criação de negócios no referido ramo de atividades.
