Difficulties of evaluators: searching for quality in educational research

Resumo: The purpose of this essay is to discuss some consequences of productivism, which the academic community has been going through, in recent years. More specifically, we will consider and reflect on two episodes of evaluation of scientific work in the field of education. After outlining a brief introduction, we proceed to the analysis, pointing out ideas and dilemmas worth debating. We conclude by considering the openness to the other as an exercise in which we experience our own decision making symmetrically to the other´s decision making, as a practice of negotiation. The plurality of ideas is a fundamental presupposition and we consider evaluator and reader as an agonistic pair that is guided by plausible arguments: both need to recognize the legitimacy of their own positions, therefore, it is not a matter of mutual annihilation, but of the recognition that they each perceive the other not as an adversary but as a legitimate and reasonable peer.

En particular, elaboraremos consideraciones y ponderaciones en lo que concierne a dos episodios de evaluación de trabajos científicos en el campo de la educación. Luego de delinear un breve preámbulo, procedemos al análisis, señalando ideas y dilemas pasibles de debate. Concluimos ponderando la apertura al otro como ejercicio en el que experimentamos nuestra propia toma de posición simétricamente a la toma de posición del otro, como práctica de negociación. La pluralidad de ideas es un supuesto fundamental y consideramos evaluador y lector un par agónico que se pauta por argumentos plausibles: ambos necesitan reconocerse en la legitimidad de sus posiciones y por ello no se trata de avanzar rumbo al aniquilamiento mutuo, sino de reconocer que cada uno constituye al otro no como adversario, sino como par, legítimo e razonables. O objetivo do ensaio é pautar algumas consequências do produtivismo a que a comunidade acadêmica tem sido compelida, nos últimos anos. Mais particularmente, vamos tecer considerações e fazer ponderações em torno de dois episódios de avaliação de trabalhos científicos no campo da educação. Após delinear breve preâmbulo, procedemos a análise, pontuando ideias e dilemas passíveis de debate. Concluímos ponderando a abertura ao outro como exercício em que experimentamos a nossa própria tomada de posição simetricamente à tomada de posição do outro, como prática de negociação.
