History, memory and social representations: a critical and interdisciplinary approach

Resumo: This paper, by recalling aspects of the discussion that history has a memory, aims to point to some challenges related to studies based on the theory of social representations and its historicity. The discussions proposed here are based mainly on the work of Paul Ricoeur and on Brazilian and French historiographies to understand memory and history as a “system of the management of the past”. Underlining some specificities of the current “historicity system” in which there is a fracture between “space of experience” and “horizon of expectation”, some consequences on the public uses of memory and history are presented through brief mentions of the Brazilian military coup and the creation of the National Commission of Truth, which serve as a provocation to the approach of social representations.

Las discusiones aquí propuestas se fundamentan sobre todo en la producción de Paul Ricoeur y en las historiografías francesa y brasileña de modo a entender memoria e historia como “regímenes de gestión del pasado”. Al señalar algunas singularidades del actual “régimen de historicidad”, en el que hay una fractura entre “espacio de experiencia” y “horizonte de expectativa”, se destacan algunas consecuencias acerca de los usos públicos de la memoria y la historia, por medio de breves menciones al golpe militar brasileño y a la creación de la Comisión Nacional de la Verdad, que sirven como provocación para abordar las representaciones sociales. Ao resgatar aspectos da discussão de que a história possui uma memória, pretende-se indicar alguns desafios relacionados aos estudos baseados na teoria das representações sociais e em sua historicidade. As discussões aqui propostas fundamentam-se, sobretudo, na produção de Paul Ricoeur e nas historiografias francesa e brasileira, de modo a entender memória e história como “regimes de gestão do passado”. Apontando-se algumas singularidades do atual “regime de historicidade”, em que há uma fratura entre “espaço de experiência” e “horizonte de expectativa”, destacam-se algumas consequências acerca dos usos públicos da memória e da história, por meio de breves menções ao golpe militar brasileiro e à criação da Comissão Nacional da Verdade, que servem de provocação para a abordagem das representações sociais.
