Historical Memory of Military Regime in Three Generations: Factual Contents and Critical Judgements

Resumo: Results from a research on the historical memory of Brazilian Military Regime, in Rio de Janeiro, are presented and discussed. Data were obtained through a questionnaire applied to 201 adult subjects, 207 aged ones, and 434 young ones. Data were analyzed upon the frequencies of distribution of the responses from subjects belonging to the different age groups and, in each one of these, from subjects belonging to ensembles of different scholarship levels and political orientations. Results show that width and precision in remembering the facts and circumstances of the period decrease from aged subjects to adults and from these to youths. Consistency of critical judgements about the Military Regime decreases from young subjects to aged ones and from these to adults. Discussion of results takes into consideration the characteristics of the psychosocial construction processes of historical memory in the three different generational groups.

Los datos fueron obtenidos a través de un cuestionario aplicado a 201 sujetos adultos, 207 ancianos y 434 jóvenes. Los datos fueron analizados a partir de las frecuencias, en términos porcentuales, de distribución de las respuestas de los sujetos pertenecientes a los diferentes grupos etarios y, en cada uno de estos, de los sujetos pertenecientes a conjuntos de distintos niveles de escolaridad y orientación política. Los resultados muestran que la amplitud y la precisión en el recuerdo de los hechos y circunstancias del período en cuestión disminuyen de los ancianos para los adultos e de estos últimos para los jóvenes. La consistencia de los jueces críticos sobre el Régimen Militar disminuye de los jóvenes para los ancianos y de estos para los adultos. La discusión de los resultados lleva en consideración las características de los procesos psico-sociales de construcción de la memoria histórica en los tres conjuntos diferentes de generaciones.São apresentados e discutidos os resultados de uma pesquisa sobre a memória histórica do Regime Militar no Rio de Janeiro. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de questionário aplicado a 201 sujeitos adultos, 207 idosos e 434 jovens. A análise dos dados realizou-se com base nas freqüências, em termos percentuais, de distribuição das respostas dos sujeitos pertencentes aos diferentes grupos etários, e, em cada um destes, dos sujeitos pertencentes a conjuntos de distintos níveis de escolaridade e orientações políticas. Os resultados mostram que a amplitude e a precisão na lembrança dos fatos e circunstâncias do período em questão decresce dos idosos para os adultos e destes para os jovens. A consistência dos juízos críticos sobre o Regime Militar decresce dos jovens para os idosos e destes para os adultos.
