Communities of knowing: the path of a cadet between Mozambique and Portugal

Resumo: In this paper we follow the trajectory of Eduardo, a cooperating student. The narrative is complemented by an analysis of the training conditions of police students from Mozambique in a Portuguese, as in the case of Eduardo, but also from Angola, Cape Verde and Sao Tome and Principe. The cadets are trained in five or more years of (equivalent to a master degree) to become police officers in their countries of origin. We argue that these students integrate communities of knowledge where the learning pedagogy includes the image and example. Such communities are historically and contextually situated. Similarly, we describe how students in cooperative education in Portugal mobilize ideas of sacrifice and hope both associated with the experience placed on the expectation of return to their own countries.

Los cadetes se preparan, durante cinco o más años de entrenamiento (equivalentes a una maestría), para convertirse em ofi ciales de policía en sus países de origen. Defendemos el argumento de que estos alumnos integran comunidades de saber, en las que se incluyen aprendizajes por medio de la pedagogía de la imagen y el ejemplo. Tales comunidades son situadas histórica y contextualmente. En el mismo sentido, describimos cómo los alumnos cooperantes en formación en Portugal movilizan ideas de sacrificio y de esperanza asociadas tanto a la experiencia situada como a la expectativa de regreso a los países de origen.Neste texto, acompanhamos de perto o percurso de Eduardo, um aluno moçambicano cooperante. Esta narrativa é complementada por uma análise das condições de formação em Portugal dos alunos de polícia de Moçambique, mas também de Angola, Cabo Verde e São Tomé e Príncipe. Os cadetes preparam-se, em cinco ou mais anos de treino (equivalentes a mestrado), para virem a ser oficiais de polícia em seus países de origem. Defendemos o argumento de que esses alunos integram comunidades de saber, onde se incluem aprendizagens pela pedagogia da imagem e do exemplo. Tais comunidades são situadas histórica e contextualmente.
