A proposal for a dialogue between developmental psychology and critical cartography

Resumo: | In recent years, many investigations in the field of developmental psychology have tried to explain the way that children build their spatial thinking. This article intends to show that such a research programme can be more complex if we consider that the meaning of maps arises from the interrelation between values and social beliefs that are produced and transmitted. To this end, we consider contributions from critical studies made within the field of the history of cartography. Collaboration among different disciplines, more specifi cally between a constructivist developmental psychology connected to the beliefs of social groups and a critical cartography that has integrated maps with the social rules and values of the social tradition they are taken from, are considered. |

El presente artículo tiene por objetivo mostrar que tal programa de investigación puede ser complejizado, si se asume que el significado de los mapas surge del interjuego de valores y creencias sociales en los que se producen y circulan, para ello se retomarán aportes de los estudios críticos realizados en el ámbito de la historia de la cartografía. Se considera la apertura de un espacio de colaboración interdisciplinaria entre una psicología del desarrollo constructivista, vinculada con las creencias de los grupos sociales, y una cartografía crítica que ha integrado a los mapas con las normas y los valores de la tradición social de la que son producto.Ces dernières années, plusieurs études dans le champ de la psychologie du développement ontcherché à expliquer comment les enfants construisaient la pensée spatiale (spatial thinking). L’objectif de cet article est de démontrer que ce programme de recherche peut présenter des difficultés plus importantes si l’on assume que la signification résulte de l’interaction des valeurs et croyances sociales à partir desquelles les cartes sont produites et diffusées. A ce fin les contributions issues des études critiques entreprises dans le cadre de l’histoire de la cartographie seront reprises. L’ouverture d’un espace de collaboration interdisciplinaire entre une psychologie du développement constructiviste, liée aux croyances des groupes sociaux, et une cartographie critique intégrant les cartes aux normes sociales et aux valeurs de la tradition sociale qui les produisent, sera prise en considération.Nos últimos anos, diversas pesquisas no campo da psicologia do desenvolvimento tiveram por objetivo explicar como as crianças constroem o pensamento espacial (spatial thinking). O presente artigo visa demonstrar que o programa de investigação pode apresentar maior dificuldade, caso seja assumido que o significado dos mapas surge da interação de valores e crenças sociais em que são produzidos e circulados. Para isso serão retomadas as contribuiçõesdos estudos críticos realizados no âmbito da história da cartografia.
