Meritocracy, excellence and school exclusion: A scoping review

Resumo: | School meritocracy is a system for rewarding students with benefits assumed for motivation and recognition of effort, but also with a negative dimension associated with the intensifica-tion and stratification of inequalities. Thus, the main objective of the present study is to analyze the literature on school meritocracy and the logics of action of schools in this context. The method used is a scoping review, aimed at selecting, analyzing and synthesizing the literature found in four databases: Web of Science, Scopus, RCAAP and Google Scholar. The results show a need for reflection on the concepts of school justice and exclusion, associated with meritocratic ideology in the logic of equal opportunities. |

Así, el objetivo principal de este estudio es el análisis de la literatura sobre la meritocracia escolar y las lógicas de acción de las escuelas en este contexto. El método adoptado es una scoping review, con el objetivo de seleccionar, analizar y sintetizar la literatura encontrada en cuatro bases de datos: Web of Science, Scopus, RCAAP y Google Scholar. Los resultados muestran una necesidad de reflexión sobre los conceptos de justicia y exclusión escolar, asociados a la ideología meritocrática en la lógica de la igualdad de oportunidades.La méritocratie scolaire est un mécanisme de distinction entre les élèves qui présente des avantages supposés en termes de motivation et de reconnaissance des efforts, mais qui comporte aussi une dimension négative associée à l’intensification et à la stratification des inégalités. Par conséquent, l’objectif principal de cette étude est d'analyser la littérature sur la méritocratie scolaire et les logiques d´action des établisssements scolaires à cet effet. La scoping review est la méthode adoptée ici pour sélectionner, analyser et synthétiser la littérature à ce sujet présente dans quatre bases de données: Web of Science, Scopus, RCAAP et Google Scholar. Les résultats indiquent qu’il faut absolument réfléchir sur les concepts de justice et d'exclusion scolaire, ainsi que sur l’idéologie méritocratique dans une logique d’égalité des chances.A meritocracia escolar é um mecanismo de distinção de alunos com supostos benefícios para a motivação e o reconhecimento do esforço, mas também com uma dimensão negativa associada à intensificação e estratificação das desigualdades. Assim, o principal objetivo deste estudo é a análise da literatura sobre meritocracia escolar e as lógicas de ação das escolas nesse contexto.
