Brazilian adaptation of HOPE: gifted rating scale

Resumo: This study aimed to investigate the evidence of content validity of the HOPE Teacher Rating Scale and adapt it to be used in Brazil. It comprises two stages: (i) translation, synthesis, back-translation and review by an expert committee, with the help of translators and expert judges; (ii) semantic analysis by the target audience, with the participation of teachers from different educational levels. It resulted in a first version of the instrument suitable to all educational levels and to the specificities of the Brazilian language and culture, which will be submitted to studies aimed at investigating its psychometric qualities. As it is a concise and easily applied instrument, it is expected that its use will help in the identification of indicators of high abilities/giftedness among Brazilian students.

Como resultado de ello, se elaboró una primera versión del instrumento, adecuada a todos los niveles de enseñanza y a las especificidades del idioma y la cultura brasileña, que deberá someterse a estudios destinados a la investigación de sus calidades psicométricas. Por ser un instrumento conciso y de fácil aplicación, se espera que su uso ayude a identificar indicadores de altas habilidades/ superdotación en estudiantes brasileños. Este estudo objetivou adaptar e investigar as evidências de validade de conteúdo da HOPE Teacher Rating Scale, para uso no Brasil, em duas etapas: (i) tradução, síntese, retrotradução e revisão por comitê de especialistas, com auxílio de tradutores e juízes especialistas; (ii) análise semântica pelo público-alvo, com participação de professores de diferentes níveis educacionais. Como resultado, confeccionou-se uma primeira versão do instrumento, adequada a todos os níveis de ensino e às especificidades da língua e cultura brasileira, a qual deverá ser submetida a estudos voltados à investigação de suas qualidades psicométricas. Por ser um instrumento conciso e de fácil aplicação, espera-se que seu uso ajude na identificação de indicadores de altas habilidades/superdotação em estudantes brasileiros.
