The present work intends to contribute to the debate about the criminalization of funk. Underlying the criminalization of the movement is a broader process of violence: the denial of fundamental rights and the criminalization of poverty. It aims to demonstrate that funk can be considered a political mechanism of resistance, capable of giving an active voice to the most vulnerable social strata. For this, it is part of the experience of field realized with the DJ Jean Du PCB. The work was done in two days. The first chapter analyzes the political-legal context of stigmatization of funk from its inception in the mid-seventies to the present day, where the genre dominates a significant part of the national music industry's production and extends to other groups population. The second chapter deals with critical criminology and media criminology as methodical for understanding the criminalization of poverty, as well as the reflexes of violence of neoliberalism on the poorest sections of the population and on the funk movement itself. The third chapter, finally, describes the fieldwork conducted by the researcher with the musician Jean Du PCB, pointing out the experiences and the context that involves this form of art-protest.
