Journalism and literature remodeled: study of a group of intellectuals of the middle sectors

Resumo: In this article I analyze the trajectories of the journalist-writers Nelson Rodrigues, Carlos Heitor Cony, Antonio Callado, Clarice Lispector, Fernando Sabino, and Otto Lara Resende. Coming from the middle sectors, they launched themselves in the profession of writer in a context of greater autonomy of the theatrical and literary fields compared with the press, between the 1940s and 1960s. In such conditions, their fictional production is possibly related to strategies of their social group, comprising both traditional and modern relationships, to avoid social decline and boost their ascent in the fields of journalism and arts in general.

Provenientes de los sectores medios, estos intelectuales se lanzaron al oficio de escritor en un contexto de mayor autonomía de los campos teatral y literario en relación con la prensa, entre las décadas de 1940 y 1960. En ese contexto, es posible que su producción ficcional sea relacionada con las estrategias de su grupo social, compuestas por relaciones tanto modernas como tradicionales, para evitar el descenso social y potenciar su ascenso en el campo del periodismo y en las letras en general.Neste artigo, analiso as trajetórias dos jornalistas-escritores Nelson Rodrigues, Carlos Heitor Cony, Antonio Callado, Clarice Lispector, Fernando Sabino e Otto Lara Resende. Oriundos dos setores médios, esses intelectuais se lançaram na profissão de escritor em contexto de maior autonomização dos campos teatral e literário em relação à imprensa, entre as décadas de 1940 e 1960.
