This paper's basic proposition is that contemporary organizational sociology presents, in a paradigmatic way, a methodological bias. This bias is produced by the systematic refusal of organizational theory to take into account the organizational context defined by the structural dimensions of the society at large. In order to illustrate this paradigmatic bias three of the most representative models of contemporary organizational theory are briefly analyzed: the multidimensional, the technological and the institutional approaches. The author suggests, in a wide perspective, a way of reorienting sociological approaches to the organization as an attempt to introduce the original problem confronted by Weber in his theory of bureaucracy: the relationships between, social structure of the society at large and the bureaucratic features of large organizations.
