Resumo: | This paper discusses environmental education as a social policy integrated to the other policies by means of an intersectorial action. First, it presents the evolution of environmental education since the end of the 60's, from the standpoint of its implications to the world scene and to the concepts of nature. It emphasizes the Agenda 21, placing environmental education within the intersectorial contexto Then the paper presents the case study of the municipal administration of Pedro lI, a town in Northeastem Brazil, where a project integrating education, health, agriculture, and environmentis being implemented. Using participa tive planning, permanent forums were established in order to allow the local Agenda 21 to define integrated public policies. |

Inicialmente, o artigo traça um histórico da educação ambiental a partir do final da década de 60, do ponto de vista de suas implicações no cenário mundial e nas concepções de natureza,pondo em destaque a Agenda 21 e situando a educação ambiental no contexto da intersetorialidade. A partir desse referencial é apresentado o estudo de caso da prefeitura municipal de Pedro 11, Piauí, onde está sendo implementado um projeto articulando educação, saúde, agricultura e meio ambiente.
