Violence and change in organizations: a critique of the business-as-war metaphor

Resumo: This paper discusses the dichotomy between a functionalist understanding of organizations and the ethics of change, by examining the violent aspects of the managerial action based on a business-as-war view. The argumentation, aligned with a critical perspective, consider the bellicose dimensions as barriers to an effective organizational change. The analysis of war manifestations in the theory and practice of organizations leads to a new reading of the concept of change and invites the science of management to the dawn of a paradigmatic transformation.
