Resumo: This paper discusses about the Projeto de Assentamento Extrativista (PAE) Santa Maria Auxiliadora, located in Humaita (AM). We talk about the public policy of rural settlements and the challenges of mediation between differents rationalities in the perception and use of the land and nature. We conducted a qualitative research with the techniques of participant observation, semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis. We could see the dilemma of Instituto Nacional de Colonização e Reforma Agrária (Incra), which under the pressures of the national land policy, aimed at quantitative performance, should lead the implementation of PAE in order to meet the peculiarities of the community. We observed that the planned settlement is reconfigured with the dynamics of community life. The “settlers” are important agents of reframing and territorialization that space.

En este trabajo se analiza el proceso de implementación del Projeto de Assentamento Agroextrativista (PAE) Santa María Auxiliadora, ubicado en Humaitá (AM). Se discuten las políticas públicas en matéria de asentamientos rurales y los retos de la mediación entre diferentes racionalidades en la percepción y uso de la tierra y de la naturaleza. Se realizó uma investigación cualitativa con las técnicas de observación participante, entrevistas semi-estructuradas y análisis documental. Observamos el dilema del Instituto Nacional de Colonização e Reforma Agrária (Incra), que bajo las presiones de la política nacional de tierras, orientada a resultados cuantitativos, debe liderar la implementación del PAE con el fin de responder a las peculiaridades de la comunidad. El asentamiento previsto es reconfigurado com la dinámica de la vida comunitária. Los “asentados” son agentes importantes de ese replanteamiento y territorialización del espacio.  Este trabalho trata do processo de implementação do Projeto de Assentamento Extrativista (PAE) Santa Maria Auxiliadora, localizado em Humaitá (AM). São debatidas as políticas públicas de assentamentos rurais e os desafios da mediação entre racionalidades distintas na percepção e na utilização da terra e da natureza. Realizou-se uma pesquisa qualitativa, com as técnicas de observação participante, entrevistas semiestruturadas e análise documental. Verificou-se o dilema do Instituto Nacional de Colonização e Reforma Agrária (Incra), que, sob as pressões da política agrária nacional, visando o desempenho quantitativo, deveria conduzir a implementação do PAE de forma a atender às peculiaridades da comunidade. Observa-se que o assentamento planejado é reconfigurado com a dinâmica da vida da comunidade, tendo os agora “assentados” como importantes agentes de ressignificação e territorialização desse espaço.
