Resumo: This article aims at broaching the issue of rationality and its reflection on the modern world, from the Weberian and Habermasian points of view. The study comprehends four parts: the first one deals with the context of the Enlightment, bringing about the question of instrumentary reason. Then, the Weberian and Habermasian concepts of rationality, some characteristics of bureaucracy - a form of social organization provided with rationality - and the meaning of the term rationality, in Weber's perspective, are presented. The third part discusses the question of rationality in the Habermasian vision and, finally, the article returns to the ideas of Weber and Habermas, in order to illustrate some converging points between those authors.
