The research aimed to evaluate the allelopathic activity of aqueous and ethanolic extracts from fresh and dried leaves of Ziziphus joazeiro Mart . the germination of Lactuca sativa L. and Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.. The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology , State University Valley Acaraú - LAFIV , Sobral , CE , between março/2013 fevereiro/2014 and the plant material was collected in trees Campus itself. Treatments T1-control, T2, T3 and T4- aqueous extract (1%, 2 % and 4 %, respectively) and T5- ethanolic extract at a ratio of 1:5; were used. We used a completely randomized design (CRD) and the averages compared by Tukey test at 5% level of significance. The variables percentage of germination, seedling growth, radicle and weight of fresh and dry matter were measured. Germination parameters of L. sativa L. and L. esculentum Mill . were not affected by application of aqueous extracts of fresh and dried leaves of Z. joazeiro Mart . Trials using ethanol extracts, however , showed adverse effects in the process of germination of the species tested.
