Resumo: There are several products that are used to treat the most varied types of cancer, these products are from industrialized medicines to use of medicinal plants. The present work seeks to identify if there is scientific evidence for the use of fruits and medicinal plants as pharmacological aid in the treatment of cancer carriers of any nature residing in the state of Piauí. Deals with a review of descriptive and exploratory literature based on the popular practice of using some fruits and medicinal plants as well as in the scientific literature of sites such: SciElo, Science Direct, Web of Science, PubMed BVS (Brazilian virtual library). The terms used were as follows: Neoplasia or Cancer, medicinal plants. Noni, red beet, soursop, aloe, saffron, açaí and cashew were analyzed. It has been identified that in all of them there are chemical properties that justify their use in the treatment of cancer, in some situations directly on cancer cells and in other situations in certain symptoms such as reduction of oxidative stress, pain, inflammation, among others. It is concluded that the products analyzed have scientific evidence for use in cancer patients, however their use should be in moderation and always with medical follow-up.

O presente trabalho buscou identificar se existem evidências científicas para utilização de frutos e plantas medicinais como auxílio farmacológico no tratamento de portadores de cânceres de qualquer natureza que residem no estado do Piauí. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura descritiva e exploratória que se embasou tanto na prática popular do uso alguns frutos e de plantas medicinais como na literatura científica de sites como: SciElo, Science Direct, Web of Science, PubMed e BVS (Biblioteca virtual brasileira). Foram utilizados como palavras-chave os termos: Neoplasia ou Câncer, plantas medicinais. Foram analisados o Noni, a beterraba vermelha, a graviola, a babosa, o açafrão, o açaí e o caju. Foram identificados que em todos eles existem propriedades químicas que justificam seu uso no tratamento do câncer, em algumas situações direto sobre as células cancerígenas e em outras situações em determinados sintomas como redução do estresse oxidativo, dor, inflamação, entre outros.
