Microencapsulation: a Promising Alternative for Preserving Natural Products

Resumo: | The increasing utilization of phytotherapics as well as the studies on them has generally triggered also a crescent worry on their efficacy, given that some non-adequate plants processing could chemically degrade their molecular content and lead to the loss of the pharmacological activities. Among the alternative techniques available to preserve the original characteristic properties of medicinal vegetal extracts it may be cited the microencapsulation. In the present survey, the most used methods for obtaining microcapsules are presented, as well as the overall applications and benefits of such. The advantages so far observed may support further studies in the field, aiming the preservation of the natural products original characteristics and, moreover, afford strategies that contribute to the standardization of those extracts and products. |

The advantages so far observed may support further studies in the field, aiming the preservation of the natural products original characteristics and, moreover, afford strategies that contribute to the standardization of those extracts and products.Os estudos e a crescente utilização dos fitoterápicos fizeram despertar em todo o mundo uma preocupação com a sua eficácia, pois o processamento inadequado das plantas pode ocasionar degradação das moléculas e conseqüente perda da atividade farmacológica. Entre as alternativas que podem ser utilizadas para preservar as características de extratos vegetais, destaca-se a encapsulação em micropartículas. No presente levantamento, demonstraram-se brevemente os principais métodos de microencapsulação, materiais encapsulantes, além de aplicações e benefícios desse processo.
