Resumo: This paper aims to contribute with analytical reflections on awareness and alienation in the context of the Brazilian psychiatric reform movement, pointing out the peculiarities of this process in a capitalist society. It seeks to present initial elements that problematize the political and social direction that is being built and consolidated by the psychiatric reform movement, which does not rely on transforming societal order and, as such, is limited to attaining political emancipation. It starts with the hypothesis that it is essential to locate the importance and contribution of the dialectical historical materialism in analyzing not only the context, but to guide it in everyday actions and in the search for critical awareness in order to build a new social order.

Busca presentar elementos iniciales que problematicen la dirección política y social que está siendo construida y consolidada por el movimiento de reforma psiquiátrica, que no se orienta en la transformación del orden societario y se limita, por ello, a la conquista de la emancipación política. Se parte de la hipótesis de que es fundamental localizar la importancia y la contribución del materialismo histórico dialéctico en el análisis no sólo de la coyuntura, sino orientarlo en las acciones cotidianas y en la búsqueda de una conciencia crítica, con el fin de construir un nuevo orden societario.O presente texto tem por objetivo contribuir com reflexões analíticas acerca da constituição da consciência e da alienação no contexto do movimento de reforma psiquiátrica brasileira, apontando as particularidades desse processo na sociedade capitalista. Busca apresentar elementos iniciais que problematizem a direção política e social que vem sendo construída e consolidada pelo movimento de reforma psiquiátrica, que não se pauta na transformação da ordem societária e limita-se, por isso, à conquista da emancipação política.
