Evaluation of education in health groups for people with chronic diseases

Resumo: The study aimed to characterize health education groups conducted for hypertension and diabetes patients in Campo Mourão, Paraná, Brazil. This is a quantitative study conducted among 121 professionals with ties to the Family Health Strategy. The researchers used a form containing descriptive and evaluation variables, like the holding of groups with the community, issues discussed, professionals participating, suggestions, and issues. The results showed that 70 percent of the units offer health education groups; however, such groups are focused on curative themes. Professionals who were involved most were community health workers and nurses. Although group setup should be changed in order to better promote health education, few professionals recognized the importance of making such changes. It is essential that family health team professionals are trained to realize that the health education process is not limited to the transfer of information, rather that it includes the shared construction of knowledge between the user and the health provider.

Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo realizado con 121 profesionales vinculados a la Estrategia Salud de la Familia. Se utilizó un formulario con variables de caracterización y de evaluación, como la formación de grupos con la comunidad, los temas tratados, los profesionales participantes, sugerencias y dificultades. Los resultados revelaron que el 70% de las unidades ofrecen grupos de educación en salud, sin embargo se centran en temas basados en la curación. Los profesionales más participativos fueron los agentes comunitarios de salud y enfermeros. Aunque los grupos presentan una configuración que necesita cambios para mejor promover la educación en salud, fueron pocos profesionales los que reconocieron la importancia de fomentar alteraciones en los grupos. Es esencial que los profesionales del equipo de salud de la familia estén capacitados para darse cuenta de que el proceso de educación en la salud no se limita a la transferencia de información, sino que incluye la construcción compartida de saberes entre el usuario y el profesional de la salud.O objetivo do estudo foi caracteriza os grupos de educação em saúde realizados para hipertensos e diabéticos de Campo Mourão, no Paraná. Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo realizado com 121 profissionais vinculados à Estratégia Saúde da Família. Utilizou-se um formulário com variáveis de caracterização e de avaliação, como a realização de grupos com a comunidade, os assuntos discutidos, os profissionais participantes, sugestões e dificuldades. Os resultados revelaram que 70% das unidades oferecem grupos de educação em saúde, contudo estão focados em temas curativistas. Os profissionais que se mostraram mais envolvidos foram os agentes comunitários de saúde e os enfermeiros. Apesar de os grupos apresentarem uma configuração que necessita de mudanças para melhor promover a educação em saúde, foram poucos os profissionais que reconheceram a importância de se promoverem alterações nos grupos.
