Case report: Guillain Barré syndrome as a result of COVID-19

Abstract At the end of december 2019, the world came across what would become the Pandemic of Covid 19, disease caused by a type of Coronavirus, a group of virus that appears as an commun etiological agent of upper respiratory tract infections. This study proposes to report the case of a 47 years patient that showed symptoms of Covid-19 in association with Guillain Barré Syndrome. The methodology used to produce this case report was an analysis of the medical record and review of the literature on the topics. The patient has previous symptoms of flu (cough, fever, running nose and asthenia), using as treatment Ivermectin and Azithromycin one week after his admission at the hospital. At this point, the patient also has reduced strength of lower limbs, distal paresthesia and facial paralysis. The infection creates a variety of immune-mediated processes and the Guillain Barré Syndrome emerges as a disorder of these processes, showing a production of specific antibodies and consequent neuropathy. The relation between GBS and Covid-19 already shows itself with a higher frequency, although more investigation about the physiopathology of this association may be necessary.
