Resumo: The conclusion of a cycle creates opportunities for reflection, whose purpose is improvement, and in the Scientific Journal of the Faculty of Medicine of Campos (RCFMC), this has manifested in increased views and submissions, reduced response times for authors, and a decrease in scientific endogamy, favoring the exchange of ideas and the circulation of knowledge among institutions. In this year of significant achievements, we reach the end of 2023 with the second issue of volume 18 of RCFMC, representing the multidisciplinary field of health sciences, biological sciences, and related areas with the publication of nine articles: an original article that identified the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and remote learning on the learning of medical students at a private university center; five review articles, including one addressing signs, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of mucopolysaccharidosis type II, another describing the role of Primary Health Care in the context of pregnancy and domestic violence, another discussing comorbidities associated with low serum levels of adiponectin in obese individuals, the use of this molecule as a predictive biomarker for metabolic syndrome, endothelial alterations, dyslipidemia, and atherosclerosis in eutrophic and obese individuals, as well as the perspective of its potential therapeutic target; another presenting the benefits and challenges of implementing pharmacogenetic and pharmacogenomic tests in clinical practice; and the use of hydrochlorothiazide, a drug intended for the treatment of arterial hypertension and erectile dysfunction; finally, three case reports, one diagnosing pulmonary embolism assisted by alterations in transthoracic echocardiography during an investigation of syncope, another reporting a case of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma strongly suggestive of Sézary Syndrome, and another describing a case of cerebellar hemangioblastoma associated with Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. Still motivated by the transformative actions of the previous administration, we continue the task of maintaining the standard of excellence, achieving goals, and attaining objectives in this approaching new cycle. We now arrive at this Editorial moment dedicated to expressions of gratitude: to the authors who shared their research; to the reviewers (anonymous protagonists) and editors who impartially safeguarded the quality of publications; to the Technical Team for their dedication and valuable contribution; and finally, to our readers, the primary reason for our work.
