Epidemiological study on stroke in a clinical Physiotherapy school

Objective To identify the epidemiological profile of patients with cerebrovascular pccident sequelae who sought care at the Clinical School of Physiotherapy UNICENTRO, in the city of Guarapuava in the state of Paraná. Methods Data collection of records stored by the physiotherapy services from 2003 to 2012. We used an evaluation script, elaborated by the researchers. Results The results showed that 54.25% of the subjects were male, 56.60% were married and the mean age was 62.37 ± 14.48 years for both genders. As risk factors, hyperlipidemia, systemic arterial hypertension and diabetes were the most evident, with values of 90.57%, 76.42% and 25.94%, respectively. Most (53.18%) patients showed partial or total dependence level to perform activities of daily living. Conclusion Health prevention actions should be intensified so that risk factors are minimized to reduce the incidence of stroke.
