Cultura. Vestuário de Segunda Mão. Brechós On-Line. ABSTRACTThe present study proposed to understand how the socio-cultural meanings related to the consumption of second-hand clothing in the online environment are constructed and reconstructed. The theoretical foundation articulates the themes of consumption and culture and the consumption of second-hand clothing. A qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research on the ends and documentary on the means was developed. Data collection was conducted from secondary research sources. Two online thrift stores were selected as the locus of research based on the criteria of accessibility, convenience and expressiveness of the stores. As a strategy for analysis and interpretation, the Critical Discourse Analysis proposed by Fairclough (2001) was used. The analysis of the results showed that the stores use the interdiscourse of sustainability to attract consumers and reframe consumption in thrift stores, trying to overcome the stigmas of thrift stores. The use of valuation through evaluative epithets helps to build a positive representation of the products. The term “little used” is very common and suggests the valuation of the new over the most used and the nostalgic relationship with the object. Therefore, it was concluded that second-hand consumption is strongly influenced by the fast fashion fashion system, establishing a relative rejection of the old. In this sense, the logic of fashion and sustainability, paradoxically, cohabits the second-hand market: the first induces the supply of goods by disposing of the pieces and the second stimulates the consumption of second-hand objects from a slow fashion perspective. Key words: Consumption. Culture. Second-Hand Clothing. Online Thrift Stores. |
