O presente artigo objetiva analisar a obra Assombrações do Recife Velho, de Gilberto Freyre, à luz dos vínculos mantidos entre o fantástico e a história. A partir dos condicionantes teóricos do livro Introdução à literatura fantástica, de Tzvetan Todorov, procurou-se vislumbrar a alegoria como categoria analítica que, em diálogo com componentes sócio-históricos, propiciou a análise dos relatos freyrianos. O método dialético, no qual as inferências permitidas pelo texto dialogam com o contexto, permitiu uma interpretação dos relatos que, mesmo voltando-se para a concretude do mundo, não dissipou a hesitação mantida por personagem e leitor diante dos fatos sobrenaturais presentes nos contos. Palavras-chaves:  Literatura Fantástica. Alegoria. Gilberto Freyre. História. ABSTRACT This paper aims to analyze Gilberto Freire's work, Assombrações do Recife Velho, beneath the kept entails between the fantasy and the history. Starting from the theoretical determinants of the book Introdução à literatura fantástica, by Tzvetan Todorov, it has made to gleam the allegory as an analytical grade whom dialogues with the social-historical components that have promoted an analysis of Freire's narratives. The dialectic method, in which, allowed inferences dialogue with the context, has permitted an interpretation of the stories which, even turning to the concreteness of the world, had not dispersed the hesitation kept by character and lector in the tales. Key-words: Fantasy literature.
