Resumo: | The article follows the path taken by Gilberto Freyre to talk about “his” Recife. The author combines descriptions of the ongoing tranformations – urban reforms in the 1920’s- with memories, reminiscences of other times. He presents the city to residents and tourists describing the weather, the houses, the buildings, the popular manifestations. He points what must be seen and visited. He documents what would be specific to Recife and compares it to Rio de Janeiro and Salvador. The title of the book should not taken for granted, as it is, in fact, a practical, historical and sentimental guide to the city. |
