Aborda-se aqui a Política de Assistência Estudantil do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Piauí (IFPI) consubstanciada no Benefício Permanente, enfocando o processo de seleção dos beneficiários, em seu primeiro ano de execução, a fim de detectar os condicionamentos que oferece ao êxito ou fracasso da ação estatal. Vale-se de edital do processo seletivo e dados do formulário socioeconômico preenchido pelos candidatos, quando da inscrição no Benefício Permanente. Constatou-se que acorreram ao benefício mais de um para cada bolsa oferecida e que 66% foram atendidos, sendo estes, os com maior necessidade e urgência do benefício. Com isso, tem-se uma ação focalizada que, ao compatibilizar universalização com exiguidade de recursos, limita-se seus efeitos aos beneficiários e os mitiga, restringindo-os aos contemplados, que, desse modo, podem usufruir o direito à educação. Palavras-chave: Assistência Estudantil. Seletividade. ABSTRACT It deals with the Student Assistance Policy at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Piauí (IFPI) embodied in the Permanent Benefit, focusing on the process of selection of beneficiaries, in their first year of implementation, in order to detect the conditioning that offers the success or failure of state action. It is based on notice of the selection process and the socioeconomic data form filled by candidates when enrollment in the Permanent Benefit. It was found that more than one for each student flocked to benefit exchange offered and 66% were met, the latter being the most in need and urgency of the benefit. Thus, there is a focused action that when the universal compatible with resource scarcity, it limits its effects to the beneficiaries and mitigates them, restricting them to the contemplated, which thus they can take advantage of the right to education. Keywords: Student Assistance.
