Resumo: This study aimed to identify the influence of the covid-19 pandemic on the time series of maternal mortality in Recife, Pernambuco, in the period 2018-2021. This is an ecological study using data from the Mortality Information System and the Live Births Information System to calculate maternal mortality ratios. The maternal mortality ratio was calculated by dividing the number of maternal deaths by live births per month and the Zero Adjusted Inverse Gaussian regression technique was used for data analysis. There were 61 maternal deaths, 21 in the two years before the pandemic and 40 deaths in the first two pandemic years. Black women were the majority, with a mean age of 33 years and a standard deviation of 8.4 years. In the period before the pandemic, hemorrhages were highlighted. In the first two years of the pandemic, coronavirus infection represented the main underlying cause of maternal death. The results of the regression model showed that there was an increase in the maternal mortality ratio in the pandemic period, with the increase in the first half of 2020, whose ratio was 182.83 per 100,000 live births, significant. The covid-19 pandemic influenced the increase in the maternal mortality ratio and contributed to epidemiological changes in the causes of maternal death in Recife. KEYWORDS: Maternal mortality. Covid-19. Live births.

No período anterior à pandemia, as hemorragias apresentavam destaque.
